Managing the Pressures of Farming Workshops

Farmsafe WA Alliance in partnership with Regional Men's Health Initiative, Rural Financial Counselling Service, One Life Suicide Prevention Strategy and Rural Community Support Services facilitated the Managing the Pressures of Farming and Rural Life workshops in Wickepin and Lake Grace during September 2012.

The interactive workshops covered topics including stress, depression, anxiety, suicide prevention, pressures relating to business management and planning, other farm specific pressures and available support services.

A highlight of the workshops was special guest speaker and retired AFL Player Heath Black, who gave an insightful presentation sharing his struggle with mental illness. Heath inspired the attendees to work together as a community to support those with mental illness and to encourage them seek help if required.

Attendance numbers at the workshops were solid and feedback received from both partners and participants was very positive. Farmsafe WA is hoping to secure furthers funds to allow this project to be delivered  in other rural locations. Farmsafe WA will continue to work towards this goal of securing further funding to see these beneficial workshops be made available to further communities.

These workshops would not have been possible without the support of the organisations involved, so thanks to:

· Healthway

· OneLife (Jane Mouritz, Glenda Miners)

· Rural Community Support Services (Ian Magor and Jo Drayton)

· Rural Financial Counselling Services (Chris Wyhoon)
