Your Health - Your Future
Your Health - Your Future in Farming
Information for Health Professionals
Farmsafe WA conducted a pilot project in early 2011, funded by
the Department of Health with the aim to allow the farming
community to reflect on how risks change throughout different life
stages and to facilitate solution focused discussions about injury
prevention.
During the workshops we created discussions and got ideas on how
to make farm work more fit for mature aged farmers but also on how
to make farmers more fit for the job. By inviting the entire family
we created discussions across generations and included all
perspectives on farm work, the ageing process, and how best to
address these issues.
Feedback from health professional on how to engage the over 55
farming community and to assess the resources currently available
to assist GP's and Nurses was vital to the success of this
project.
Small focus group/PD sessions were organised at the following
locations:
- Collie River Valley Medical Centre
- Greater Bunbury District General Practice
- Donnybrook Medical Centre
- Donnybrook Hospital
- Boyup Brook Medical Centre
- Bridgetown Medical Practice
- Harvey Medical Centre.
If you are interested in participating in this project but are
unable to attend one of the focus group/PD sessions you could help
by filling out a questionnaire
which will only take a couple minutes.
The purpose of the questionnaire was to identify ways in which
to engage the over 55 farming community and their families and to
assess and evaluate the current resources available to health
professionals.
Completing and returning of the questionnaires helped us to
provide the most useful and relevant information at the workshops
scheduled for the end of March 2011.
People were also invited to attend the workshops which were held
in:
- Cowaramup at the Duggan Pavilion
- Nannup at St John Ambulance
- Bridgetown at St John Ambulance &
- Donnybrook at St John Ambulance
